Khwai Mokoro Safaris & Campsites (KMS) is an innovative and environmentally-conscious safari outfit nestled in the heart of the iconic Khwai area. Set along the Sable Alley River, which forms part of the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Khwai Mokoro Safaris and Campsites is committed to minimal ecological impact through green energy solutions and sustainable tourism practices.

safaris

A mokoro is a traditional canoe used in the Okavango Delta, primarily by the Bayei people of Botswana. Originally carved from tree trunks, modern mokoros are often made of fiberglass. Their narrow, shallow design allows them to glide through the delta’s waters, reeds, and lily pads with ease.

Polers guide mokoros by standing at the rear and using a long pole to push off the riverbed, navigating the delta’s winding channels. Mokoros are used for transport, fishing, and wildlife viewing, providing a quiet, eco-friendly way to explore the delta without disturbing its delicate ecosystem.
